In Collaboration There Are Thinkers And Taskers
Every group of collaborators is different… The project is different, the deliverables, the personalities, the tools used to collaborate; who would argue that every collaboration is the same? However, there is one consistency within collaborative group: there are thinkers and there are taskers.

Every group, no matter the size or make up, will have a group of people who “THINK” of the next big idea, or want to “GET STARTED” with execution. Both types of people are important to a collaborative group. However, at times, the two groups can get contentious. How do you embrace both types? Well, the secret is embracing both types… Below are some ideas as to how to engage, incorporate and empower…
Engage:
- Bring the groups together
- Allow them to talk
- Make ideas and process important
Incorporate:
- Ask each to contribute to the objective
- Bring their idea of “goals” to the collaborative process
- Schedule regular meetings
Empower:
- Allow them to leave and come back with contributions
- Create a “sharing meeting” where all contributions get feedback
- Acknowledge positive contributions and great ideas
It is your teams emotional intelligence that will drive collaborative results. Your goals and objectives will be reached quickly and smoothly when you think: people first…
