MD&DI Publishes Medical Design Excellence Awards
“Design is directed toward human beings. To design is to solve human problems by identifying them and executing the best solution.” Said Ivan Chermayeff, the now famous designer and creator of notable identities as NBC, Mobile oil and PBS. With medical device the same must hold true; as we are all trying to improve patient outcomes.
The website MedicalDeviceLink.com and magazie Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry (MD&DI) recently announced their choice for the best medical device design during their annual 2009 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA). Not sure if I would classify the devices as “sexy”, but practically-looking they are. The products awarded ranged from hearing aids to In Vitro diagnostics. All shared some commonalties – they were designed.
According to the MDEA website
MDEA-winning entries excel in the areas of product innovation, design and engineering achievement, end-user benefit, and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing and healthcare delivery. A comprehensive review of the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine, and diagnostics. The 2009 jury selected 32 winners in 10 medical product categories.
