Syndicom

On the road again…Syndicom, SpineConnect and SMISS!!

This past weekend, the folks from Syndicom headed to Nevada to attend the annual SMISS (Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery) conference and catch up with friends there! Did you know that MIS started to take off about 10 years ago?

The conference involved the usual presentations, networking opportunities, exhibitions and an intensive two-day course demonstrating the latest operative techniques in a hands-on, cadaver-based curriculum to introduce both the beginning and experienced spine surgeon to the best of minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery. WOW! You don’t see that kind of action at the kinds of conferences  I attend!

In case you haven’t heard of this Society, it is a non profit charitable organization formed to bring together spine surgeons to advance the field of minimally invasive surgery, discuss new techniques, guide the responsible use of technology and provide a forum for its members. Minimally invasive techniques have been found to decrease post-operative pain, speed up recovery, reduce blood loss and soft tissue damage and improve function. The smaller incisions mean less scarring for patients who suffer from painful spinal conditions. Some of these procedures were unheard of years ago. Presentations at the conference covered recovery outcomes for various procedures as well as discussions around the consequences of AxiaLIF, TLIF and XLIF surgeries. There were also panels on endoscopic lumbar techniques, case presentations and a discussion on the future in terms of robotics, radiosurgery and image guidance.

This conference was a great mix of industry and discussions on new research. An easy going show format with time to listen and to talk. Not to mention the great wine and cheese event with the exhibitors!

See - now I bet you were wishing you were there!

With gratitude to bratan and amypalko for their excellent pictures!

Good things happen when we connect!
