One for my pediatrician…and his surgeon
As we approach the holiday season, let’s spare a thought for all those to whom our patients are connected. Recently, I called my pediatrician to set up a well child visit for my son to find out he is on leave as he is having back surgery. An older gentleman who suffers from scoliosis, I became concerned for him and began to reflect on the kind of work spinal surgeons do and the impact it has on all those people connected to my pediatrician — his family, his colleagues, his patients, his community.
It also made me pause and consider how amongst all the technology and expertise that surround it, the very object that keeps us upright and mobile as long as it survives intact is the one on which you, the members of SpineConnect work. The spine, in all its forms, is a constant source of wonder to me — for what it does, what it can do, what it must do and how central it is to our life force. You work with our life force.
So as the end of the year approaches, as the shortest day has passed, and as our families clamor for our attention, we send our very best wishes out to you and honor the life force on which you work.
With thanks to vandan desai for their gifts!
May peace, rest and merriment be yours, this festive season of light!
