Syndicom on tour - SRS, NASS, AAOS - onwards and upwards!
As a followup to last week’s discussion of the annual conference of the Scoliosis Research Society last week in Salt Lake City, I thought we would get a report from Syndicom’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Walker Thompson on his experiences at the conference!
K: Walker, you recently attended the annual conference of the Scoliosis Research Society - how would you describe the meeting?
W: We were only there a short time, but from what I saw, the conference had a very strong academic focus. A really big research group with lots of activity. I got to sit in on some panels on scoliosis in these huge rooms, with screens at the front and also on the sides for powerpoint and screen shots etc. There were TV cameras as well! I had to stand, it was so packed. The audience was captivated by the presenters! I had read some of the abstracts - there was a lot on new technologies, preventing blood loss, various animal studies on treatment options. Just an incredible production of new research!
K: Why did Syndicom decide to attend the conference?
W: Jim Youssef recommended we go to the conference to connect with surgeons; which we did. It was the first time I had been there, but representatives from Syndicom had been there previously.
K: What conversations, insights, ideas etc did you come away with after being there?
W: What I enjoyed was the conversations that I had with several SpineConnect surgeons who were there. They all told me how they had posted several cases, a little about the work they were doing =it was great to make contact with them and catch up with what they were doing. One idea that came out of those conversations and some others I had was whether it would be possible for surgeons to use our technology for their own research, and that is something we are definitely interested in. They spoke a lot of the value provided by SpineConnect in terms of facilitating collaboration with their peers. We have been thinking about this a lot and discussing it with various professional organizations as well to gauge their interest.
K: How many conferences do you attend a year and how do you choose which ones?
W: Well, we have another 3 coming up. We tend to go to the bigger gatherings to try and catch up with people. So our next stop will be NASS in Toronto in October and from there we will go to the AAOS meeting and a conference on emerging technology in February 2009. We are looking forward to going to NASS next month!
K: So how can people find you there or find out more about Syndicom will be doing there?
W: The easiest way is probably to go to our homepage and click on the awesome event calendar that Aaron put together for us. From there you can call or email Jay Rush, our solutions specialist at rush {at} syndicom(.)com and schedule either a demo or a meeting with us. We have several meetings planned already and are always happy to catch up and talk with people while we are there, so just drop us a line!
K: That sounds great. Thanks for all your time Walker, and here’s to a great trip to NASS in October! If any of our readers are interested in catching up with Walker, Jay and the Syndicom crew, just send them an email or drop by the booth (see the diagram below - the arrow shows the booth (#1311) right across from the food service area) before, or while you are at the conference!
Good night and good luck!
