Web2.0: Collaboration IS The Next Big WEB Thing…
A recent post on www.ceoforum.com by Les Williamson, Managing Director CISCO NZ and AUS, highlighted what all CEO’s should know: collaboration is web2.0. The post goes on to illustrate the past, present and future of the internet. The breakdown was significant, because Williamson was able to highlight what a lot of us web-people already know: that you have to alter, not what you do, but how you do it. And, that the most successful companies deploying a web2.0 strategy do just this. Most importantly, a collaboration strategy is something all CEO’s should know more about. A quote from the post:
But again, for the CEOs of today to consider the impact of collaboration and Web2.0 as only a limited element of their business would be folly. And that is not only because they might risk losing the best and brightest of tomorrow from their workforce if they don’t provide them with the best-in-class tools. Quite simply, it is the platform of networked based collaboration tools, created on the public Internet but increasingly being adopted in the workplace, which will set apart the successful businesses of the first two decades of the 21st century.
The McKinsey Quarterly detailed how companies utilize web2.0 strategies via a global survey, which has rippled through the Syndicom team. According to their results, companies are changing how they do things. A few survey highlights:
- This year’s survey reveals continuing investments in Web 2.0. Companies that are deriving business value from these tools are now shifting from using them experimentally to adopting them as part of a broader business practice.
- Last year, our respondents said that their companies had adopted just over two Web 2.0 tools on average; this year, those companies have adopted two and a half from the same list and more than three from an expanded one.
- Companies report that they are using Web 2.0 both within and outside their walls—to forge tighter links with customers and suppliers and to engage employees more successfully.
