SYNDICOM’S MEMBERSHIP GROWTH POINTS TO RISING POPULARITY OF ONLINE COLLABORATION FOR THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY
More than 850 spine surgeons are now collaborating and sharing knowledge online about difficult cases, the latest treatments and medical devices
Durango , CO - August 15, 2007 - Syndicom, an innovative platform for online collaboration and knowledge sharing, today announced that its membership growth had increased an average of 10 percent per month, since the company launched SpineConnect with 13 surgeon members in October of 2005. More than 850 spine surgeons are now using Syndicom SpineConnect to collaborate online about difficult cases, the latest spine treatments, and most useful medical devices.
Nearly unknown in the medical world just a few years ago, Syndicom’s growth in members and cases posted online is testament to the usefulness and usability of online collaboration for the medical industry. Since 2005 Syndicom has logged more than 750 cases, 3,500 physician comments from more than 30 different countries.
"Of course we’re very pleased to see Syndicom catch on among surgeons and the medical community at large, but we’re even more gratified that so many patients are getting better care, because physicians can finally collaborate and share treatment information online," said Scott Capdevielle, CEO of Syndicom. "While we don’t have the member base of the rank-and-file collaboration and social networking sites like MySpace or Facebook, we’re fast becoming the go-to site for spine surgeons to share knowledge and get answers to key questions from peers in their specialty."
Historically the Web has been used primarily to extract, rather than to share, information. Today Web-based collaborative tools, like those from Syndicom, have emerged as a new way to link specialists and medical device manufacturers together in a community. Syndicom makes it possible for them to share their knowledge, insights, and experiences with a shared common goal of bringing new medical devices and techniques to bear, thereby improving patient outcomes. Leading manufacturers of medical devices are also leveraging the SpineConnect Community, as an integral component of their education and training processes.
Jeffrey C.Wang, M.D., chief of Orthopaedic Spine Service, UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center, UCLA School of Medicine, and member of Syndicom’s SpineConnect, concurred. "Before the advent of the Web and Syndicom, I was forced by circumstance to rely solely on publications, conferences and annual meetings to interact with our peers and consult on tough cases," he said. "Now Syndicom gives me an entire online community of global medical experts to work with whenever I need to, and a secure place online for us to share knowledge and insights with the common goal of improving treatments for our patients.
